The first stop is Siena home of the famous horse race called “Palio” as seen in the 2008 James Bond film “Quantum of Solace”. This tour will satiate your dreams in regards to seeing the famous Tuscan rolling hills. The production of Brunello wines are exclusive to this geographical area and wine tastings are encouraged. I always recommend visiting the underground at Ercolani in Via di Gracciano nel Corso #82 during your free time in Montepulciano. It once had Etruscan tombs, storage room for wine, oil, vinsanto & water. From the IV Century B.C. to the Renaissance it was used as a prison and torture chamber. It’s free of charge and concludes with a cheese and wine tasting.

Carrara Marble Tour
Everyone who takes this tour is blown away by it! Though one of the least sold tours, it is a magical and surreal adventure for those who do. Experience where Michelangelo sourced his marble for his famous Pietá & where 007 James Bond had an unbelievable car chase in the film, “Quantum of Solace.”
The tour begins at 8:00am in front of your abode in Florence with one of our English speaking drivers and private Mercedes Benz. Upon your arrival in Carrara (about a 2 hour drive) you’ll meet your private tour guide and new driver. You’ll board your private Land Rover Defender for the next 3 hours.
The first stop is “the calm before the storm” at a great location called “La Piana” in the first of 3 valleys you’ll visit throughout the day. This is the original quarry that the Romans excavated over 2000 years ago to build much of their infrastructure and monuments across their Empire.
The Defender now becomes your only means of transportation as your expert driver navigates the treacherous, steep, non paved roads to reach the active quarries, some with elevations over 5000 feet. While driving from the first to the second valley called “Miseglia”, you’ll be on the road which was built (and still is in use by the quarry workers) for the initial car chase in the 2008 James Bond “Quantum of Solace” film.
You’ll have special privileged access to private open-pit quarries to see marble excavation in progress (Sundays excluded). You’ll learn and see the techniques & machines in use, learn about the weight & size of each block excavated as well as all the strict laws that this multi-billion Euro industry must abide by.
During your climb to the third and final valley called “Torano”, you’ll stop to see Michelangelo’s quarry (no longer being excavated). Before returning to valley and your original driver & Mercedes Benz, you’ll stop for a taste of what many chefs around the world use in their culinary dishes, “Lard from Colonnata”. This mouth watering cured meat is left to cure in Carrara marble cases for about a year. The perfect temperature & humidity allow the spices & herbs to penetrate the lard and leave one of the most prestigious and amazing tastes in the world.
Lunch is on your own in the small Tuscan town of Pietrasanta, where you will fall in love with the charm of old medieval streets and array of restaurants. After lunch, you’re off to Pisa for a quick photo stop. Your tour is complete with a final drop off in Florence around 6:00pm.
